Your future team

  • You will be reporting directly to Michael Siebers, Holidu's Co-Founder, CTO and Managing Director.
  • Being part of the Holidu Search Management Team and working closely with the executive team including the CEO and Co-Founder.
  • Reports: 70 people based in Munich and potential further locations, with the aim of scaling your business unit to 140 by the end of 2022.

Our Tech Stack

  • We are writing the frontend of our Search Engine in ReactJS, running on a cluster of node.js servers in Kubernetes.
  • We are using Redux, Typescript and Express on the server.
  • The backend of our Search Engine we are writing with a microservice approach, using  Java 11, with Spring Boot, running on Kubernetes.
  • Data storage with Elasticsearch 7, PostgreSQL, Kafka, MongoDB, Redis.
  • Heavy usage of AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, Git.
  • Native iOS and Android Apps written with Swift and Kotlin.
  • Monitoring with ELK, Grafana and internally developed technologies.

Your role in this journey

  • You will own the technical responsibility for Holidu's main revenue driving business unit Holidu Search including multiple departments and with +100M yearly users.
  • Scale your business unit from 70 people today to 140 by end of 2022 and the overall tech organization to 200 Engineers, Product Managers, Data Scientists, among others.
  • Take on the role as an inspirational leader to attract top talents by representing the company internally and externally.
  • Develop together with the Co-Founder and CTO the Engineering Culture to achieve engineering excellence and to develop the organization so that the team can double every 18 months.
  • Deliver a highly performing engineering organization with a world class innovation speed to achieve a best performing product for our customers.
  • Contribute as part of the Holidu Search Management Team as a decisive factor to the success of Holidu.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
  • Core Product: Own the delivery of the product roadmap and the platform and infrastructure for the Holidu Search business unit with more than +100M yearly users.
  • Team: Continue to build and lead the evolution of the technology team to deliver the broadening search platform.
  • Management: Will scale and manage teams of 100+ (managing through other managers), including infrastructure and delivering commercially successful software/platforms. Will be an inspirational leader, who can successfully hire an incredible, strong team and build a strong culture.
  • Customer focused (user centric): Develop a strong understanding of customer needs and establish operational standards to exceed customer satisfaction, focusing on user experience and best practice digital delivery and service.
  • Growth and Financial: Be growth oriented, budget conscious, and metric/measurement driven.
  • Commercial: Assess and understand the business, technical and financial trade-offs of buy versus build decisions.
  • Technical / Innovation: Consistently evaluates technical efficiency and makes changes as necessary. Evaluates new technology and makes recommendations on technological solutions.
  • Architecture: Drive the team to make the appropriate architecture choices related to the team size, our business needs and our growth.

Key Experience
  • Overview: Passion for disrupting established markets through innovation and building teams.
  • Domain: Experience with millions of users, scaling, B2C domain, ideally transactional.
  • Leadership: At least ten years of experience in the software development world where a significant portion of that time has been spent in engineering management or leadership roles.
  • Product Led: Operated in a product led environment, will have led the delivery of the product roadmaps and plans that focus on solving business problems.
  • Technical background: Background in building applications with cloud technologies which can scale to millions of daily users. Ideally you come from the backend development with the stack of Java, ElasticSearch and AWS. 
  • Growth: Led engineering teams and technology operations at a high growth company. Ideally experienced in scaling teams from 75 to 150 first hand or been in a much larger organisation where you have learned from other experienced leaders.
  • Passion: Leadership and communication skills to attract, recruit, inspire and retain a talented team. 
  • Innovation: Demonstrated record of professional experience in innovation, with a reputation for motivating and enabling teams to rapidly deliver unique and differentiating solutions that focus on delivering business solutions and solving customer problems.
  • International: Prior experience developing and operating with an international (ideally global) environment including the team and clients.
  • Development environment: Agile / Squad structures.
  • Architecture: Well-versed in architectural design with an emphasis on pragmatic approaches to building scalable solutions to meet the expected growth in demand across the platform.
  • Data and Security: Knowledge of current trends in security and safeguarding of data.
