The castle of Kastro was built in 1207 by the conqueror Markos II Sanoudos, who came from Venice. It was used as a large protective fortress, built with a pentagonal shape, four storeys, large towers, and high stone walls. Today it belongs to the Archaeological Service, which has allowed it to be preserved so well all these years, and be visited by tourists on a regular basis.

To continue enjoying the ocean in Naxos, Agia Anna Beach is another excellent option. Located in the charming town of Agia Anna, here you can enjoy beautiful white sands, waters with different shades of turquoise, and vegetation that gives it a unique rustic touch. Temples to the god Apollo are quite common in Greece, and on Naxos you will also have the opportunity to visit one. Although it is really just a huge gateway to the real temple, which was never finished, it is still quite an imposing monument. It was built on the order of the tyrant Lygdamis during 530 BC, and is composed of large marble parts with a height of 193 feet. From where it is located, you can get outstanding views of the sunset, so it is ideal to visit as the day is drawing to a close.

You cannot leave Naxos without visiting its beautiful port. This is the arrival place for ferries and other ships, so the scenery is always very similar, long lines of boats of all kinds here and there. Besides that, from this point you will have incredible views of the main town, its typical white buildings, the occasional historical monument and the rising trees between the streets.
