Tenerife is always worth a trip, because sunshine is almost always guaranteed – all year long. There, you can expect great hikes, awesome sunsets and delicious tapas.

In our travel guide you will find great things to do in Tenerife.

1. Hidden Gem Tenerife: Sunset 290

This bar is for sure one of the best bars on the whole island. It is the perfect spot for watching the sunset while enjoying dinner or just a good cocktail. Due to the Balinese day beds, Buddha statues and the sandy floor, you may feel more like you’ve been transplanted to Bali instead of being in the middle of Tenerife’s mountains. Be aware that you can only drive to a certain point with your own car and a driver from “Sunset 290” will pick you up to help complete your journey. The atmosphere is unique, and the sunsets – insane!

2. Hidden Gem Tenerife: Masca

This hike will probably be one of your coolest experiences on Tenerife! The Masca Gorge Walk starts in a small village (the taxi ride to the the village is already an adventure in itself) and leads you to a beach, where a boat will pick you up and bring you to the village Los Gigantes. The hike takes about 4 hours total so make sure to bring enough snacks and water. It is not the easiest hike, so we recommend it only to those who are in relatively good shape and aren’t afraid of heights. The views and the surrounding scenery are simply breathtaking.

This place is perfect for breakfast or lunch. At “Sana Healthy Food” you get delicious oat pancakes, healthy sandwiches, mouthwatering fresh salads and good coffee. This cafe is also gluten free and vegan-friendly. The interior was clearly painstakingly designed with love and care and if you’re lucky, you can get the cozy seat at the window and enjoy the sun while being able to people-watch. All in all: reasonable price, good-quality food and a creative menu.

4. Hidden Gem Tenerife: Las Teresitas

If you plan a day in Santa Cruz then you should definitely enjoy a couple of hours at the beautiful Playa de Las Teresitas. Because of the breakwater that protects against ocean currents, the water is very calm, perfect for a refreshing swim, and sand pristine and golden. You can find many beach bars around for a little snack or drink. It is roughly a 15-minute ride from Santa Cruz.

5. Hidden Gem Tenerife: Playa de Benijo

This beach is one of the most beautiful black sand beaches in Tenerife. When you make a day trip to the Anaga Mountains, this should not be missed. Its sunsets are simply magical, especially when the glimmering sea contrasts with the red horizon and the dark outline of the volcanic rocks rising from the depths of the ocean. To get there you can drive by car to the deck of Mirador Benijo to have a nice view. If you want to go down to the beach you have to walk along a path with steps. But be careful with swimming as there is a strong current. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby to taste some typical Tenerife dishes.

6. Hidden Gem Tenerife: Makika & Co

When you visit San Cristobal de la Laguna you should definitely come for breakfast or lunch to check out Makika. This cafe is a real hidden gem. Right in the centre of La Laguna, you suddenly find yourself far from the hustle and bustle, immersed in lush, tropical-style vegetation. The courtyard is filled with yellow and green chairs, wooden tables and tonnes of plants. An interior dream with an amazing atmosphere. The cafe specializes in French pastries and sells croissants that are to die for.

The Auditorio de Tenerife is the home of the Orquestra Sinfónica de Tenerife, Spain’s symphony orchestra, and hosts annual musical events: A glamorous and permanent programme that includes classical and contemporary music.
