    Holidays in Palma de Mallorca

    Location and orientation

    Holidays in "La Ciutat"

Palma de Mallorca is the throbbing heart of the popular holiday island Mallorca - after all, about half of all (permanent) inhabitants live here. It is worth mentioning that more and more foreigners are setting up camp in the Mallorcan capital. Palma de Mallorca itself stretches along the beautiful bay of Palma in the west of the island and, together with all its suburbs, stretches for 30 kilometres from S'Arenal in the east to Magaluf in the west. The historic old town is an exciting mix of Spanish and Arabic architecture and is characterised by the typical alleyways, some of which are only connected by stairs and gables. In this colourful confusion, in the orderly chaos, you will surely find one or the other holiday apartment according to your taste! Of course, Palma de Mallorca has its own, much frequented airport. It is about 8 kilometres from the city centre and can be reached by taxi, public transport and shuttle buses. Palma de Mallorca also has great beaches to offer: the Platja de Palma stretches east for ten kilometres to S'Arenal, to the west the bay Cala Major awaits your visit. In the north-west, Palma de Mallorca is separated from the central plain of Mallorca by gentle ranges of hills - a great area for long walks and mountain bike tours, especially in the spring and autumn months, when temperatures are pleasantly mild.

    Things to know

Did you know what the name Mallorca means? The Mallorcans sometimes show their wonderful dry humour when choosing the names of their places. While Mallorca means "the bigger island", Menorca is literally "the smaller one". The wink becomes even clearer when we look at Cala Bona, the "good bay". And then we look to Cala Millor, which is called the "better bay".
Did you know that half the population of Mallorca lives in Palma?

    1. Visit the cathedral La Seu

From your fully equipped vacation rental in Palma de Mallorca you have the opportunity to discover the many sights and architecturally impressive monuments of the capital. The charming cathedral La Seu awaits you in the southern part of the old town. Right next to the cathedral there is a palace that serves as the residence of the Spanish king. Not far from the cathedral is another architectural masterpiece: Llotja de Palma, the former maritime trade exchange.

2nd walk through the old town

On a walk through the flair-rich old town you can admire more than 30 other churches, among them the beautiful basilica Sant Francesc. Let yourself be captivated by the picturesque alleys and the Spanish-Catalan and Arabic influence.

3rd castle complex Castell de Bellver

High above Palma de Mallorca towers the majestic castle Castell de Bellver, from where you can enjoy a sensational view over the old town, the harbour, the bay of Palma and the turquoise blue sea.

    4.the port of Palma

There's always something going on in Palma Harbour! Early in the morning the fishermen in the fishing harbour in the very east, just below the Almudaina Palace, offer their catch of the day on the fish exchange. An ideal opportunity for you to benefit from the incredible selection of sea food and shop for juicy shrimps and delicious fish for the barbecue evening in the cottage. Less hectic and all the more elegant is the way in the centre of the harbour, the Club Nautico with sailboat and yacht moorings. Here you can admire the beautiful luxury yachts and watch the hustle and bustle in one of the many cafés along the harbour promenade with a tasty drink. Also in the evenings, the Club Nautico is very busy, while in some places the dancing leg is swung after delicious tapas.

    5. The aquarium

For families with children, a trip to the Palma Aquarium near the capital is highly recommended. In more than 55 aquariums, visitors can admire over 7,000 different marine species, including dolphins, turtles and sharks.
