Location and orientation

Urlau on the Atlantic Ocean

Top 3 travel tips

1. Walking on the most important natural monument of the region

About 60 kilometres from Bordeaux, south of the Arcachon basin, is the Pilat sand dune. This natural monument measures a height of 107 meters and is five kilometers long and fifty meters wide. It is considered to be the highest dune in Europe, which is constantly in motion due to the sea winds. Climb the dune and enjoy the impressive panoramic view over the coast and the ocean.

2. Walk over vineyards and taste the most delicious wines

For wine lovers, Bordeaux is the perfect place to taste some of the finest wines in the world. Combine your wine exploration tour with a hike and visit Château Margaux, then walk through the Saint-Julien area until you reach Pauillac. The Latour, Lafite-Rothschild and Mouton-Rothschild wine cellars are the perfect place to store top-quality wines, which you can taste on site.

3. To be pampered with culinary delights

All over France, the enjoyment of tasty dishes plays an important role. One of Gironde's specialities is "Garbure gasconne", a vegetable soup with cabbage and duck. The goose liver pâté from the Périgord, oysters from the bay of Arcachon and the famous lamb from Pauillac are also a real treat for the palate.
