There is no doubt that Estepona has one of the finest beaches in southern Spain. With a protective breakwater, fine sand and a gentle slope into the tranquil waters, Estepona’s beaches are safely reassuring for parents. With all facilities to hand you can easily spend the day there without having to leave. Bring a picnic or check out one of the chiringuitos – restaurants or cafes next to the beach – for delicious food and drinks. The clear turquoise water here is warmer than you might expect thanks to the gentle curve of the horseshoe-shaped bay which is protected from the wind.

Estepona is surrounded by the most stunning of countryside. Perfect for hikers, the terrain just outside Estepona town is not difficult, but if you really like a challenge, head for the Sierra Bermeja ranges. Covered with a pine tree unique to the area, these mountains offer experienced hikers a host of challenges in extraordinary surroundings. Spring waters en route are accessible to those wishing to use it. Reaching a height of 1,500 meters, these mountains are also driveable, so if you do not wish to take up the challenge, you can still experience the fine views from the top without doing all the hard work!

Andalucia is famous for its gazpacho soup – a soup served cold which is delightful in the hot summer. Made from tomatoes, garlic, cucumber and pepper it’s super healthy too!

As you walk around Estepona, don’t be surprised if you come across a mural across an entire building. With more than 20 around the town, they include the largest mural set in Spain which covers 6 apartment blocks!

The Corominas Necropolis is a museum and archaeology site where you can visit burial sites from the stone age. Check the opening times and beware that you usually you need to pre-book. A fascinating visit for those interested in this period of history.

At the southern end of town is the delightful Estepona Marina, packed with high end restaurants and cafes and the Sunday Market. Marvel at the luxury yachts moored here before they go off on their next adventure.

Estepona’s orchidarium was only opened 2015 but it instantly became a must-visit for tourists and locals alike. Housing the world’s largest flower, which can grow up to 3 meters, as well as over 8,000 other species including 1300 orchids, the orchidarium is an important scientific center as well as a wonderful day out. With sections laid out for plants from Asia and plants from the Americas, the orchidarium is educational as well as entertaining.
