The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad has been operating since the late 1800s, and offers one of the best historic train experiences in the country. The vintage train operates year-round and offers great scenic views during every season! Come during fall to see the vibrant colored foliage, or during the winter to see the mountain covered in snow. Wind through alpine forests and rocky mountain terrain on this scenic and entertaining 3.5-hour ride.

On the way to the nearby town of Durango you can pull off the highway to see the picturesque Pinkerton Hot Springs. The rainbow-colored rocks are filled with warm pools of mineral water. The rocks are slippery, but this is a great spot to explore and to take photos!

Purgatory Resort offers a free shuttle service to Twilight Lake where you can enjoy a myriad of water activities during the summer months. Rent kayaks or stand-up-paddleboards to explore the serene lake surrounded by mountains and alpine forests. A great family day-time activity!

One of Purgatory’s main attractions, the Inferno Rollercoaster, is a fun activity for all ages. You can actually control the speed of the ride, so even younger riders can safely enjoy it! The coaster features a 300-foot drop and a breathtaking view of the San Juan Mountains.
