Indian Lake is a 5,100-acre reservoir in western Ohio, just 20 miles southeast of the town of Lima. If you’ll be flying into the area, the closest major airport is Dayton International Airport, at just over an hour, or 67 miles, away. Indian Lake covers a large area, and unless you plan on solely relaxing in your rental throughout your stay (we wouldn’t hold it against you!), you’ll most likely need to rely on a private car to get from place to place. Rental cars are available at Dayton International Airport or in the nearby towns. Otherwise, it is possible to rely on taxi, private shuttle service, Uber, or Lyft during your time at Indian Lake.

Indian Lake is popular among fishing enthusiasts as it is nationally recognized for its abundant population of various fish species. Large mouth bass, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, white bass, perch, carp, and bullhead fish can all be found in its waters. Bring your own gear or rent some from a local outfitter. Just bear in mind that a local fishing permit is required to fish, which can easily be purchased at various points around the lake.

Indian Lake is a fantastic vacation destination for families of all ages. Take a day trip to Ohio Caverns, which is just a 30-minute drive away from Indian Lake in West Liberty. Take an underground tour into the largest cave system in the entire state. The caverns are filled with magnificent stalactite and stalagmite formations. Also, nearby the lake is Armstrong Air and Space Museum, located in Wapakoneta. This is the town where Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, grew up. Indian Lake is a great spot for a refreshing dip during the warmer months. There are two designated swimming areas at the lake, Old Field Beach and Fox Island Beach. Both areas offer a long stretch of sandy beach, clean facilities, and clean swimmable waters. Head to both beaches if you have time!

The lake is wildly popular in the summer months for its wide range of water activity offerings. Take a boat out for a day on the lake. You can either launch your own boat or rent one at the many local rental companies. Jet skiing, tubing, kayaking, and canoeing are also popular among visitors. Bring a cooler with drinks and snacks and spend the day in the sun on the water.

Indian Lake isn’t just for summer trips, you can find a wide range of fun things to do in the area year round! If you visit in the winter months, you can go skiing, snowboarding, or tubing at the nearby Mad River Mountain. The resort has 23 trails for all skill levels, including two areas just for beginners.

Indian Lake is a part of Indian Lake State Park, an 847-acre public recreational area made up of two separate units. One area of the park is set on the south shore of the lake and the other is on the west shore. Throughout the park you’ll find various facilities, an ice cream stand, a swimming pool, campgrounds, walking trails, and lakeside views. You can access the beaches from the park areas.

There are several highly rated restaurants around the lake shore. Head to Woody’s Diner for a menu full of comfort foods, including sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, and more. Tilton Hilton serves incredible hamburgers. For something a little more high-end, head to the restaurant at Cranberry Resort Waterfront Bar & Grill, where you’ll find seafood options. Enjoy Mexican cuisine at La Playa Azul Cocina & Cantina, which serves incredible authentic dishes right on the lakeside.
