Location and orientation

The coast and the bordering states

The Republic of Kenya is located in eastern Africa and is bordered by the Indian Ocean in the southeast. In the north, the state borders Ethiopia. Other neighbouring countries are South Sudan in the northwest, Somalia in the northeast, Uganda in the west and Tanzania in the south. The capital of the country is Nairobi. Mombasa is the second largest city.

Top travel tips

1. Discover unique flora and fauna

In Kenya there are a number of national parks and nature reserves, which give you very special impressions. The largest of these is the Tsavo National Park and the most famous nature reserve is called Masai Mara. Masai Mara is home to numerous animal species, such as buffalos, zebras, wildebeests and impalas, which can be observed especially in the summer months. See large wildlife such as elephants, giraffes and ostriches on a safari through the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the Lang´ata Giraffe Centre or Ostrich Park.

2. To the most beautiful beaches of the country

Kenya has miles of white and fine sandy beaches lined with swaying palm trees. The azure blue, clear and clean sea water is a true paradise for swimmers, snorkelers and water sports enthusiasts and easily accessible from your apartment in Kenya. From your apartment north of Mombasa, you can quickly reach popular beaches such as Nyali Beach, Bamburi Beach and Shanzu Beach. South of Mombasa the beaches Tiwi Beach and Diani Beach are even more extensive and in the background with lush forests and fields. On these beaches you can dine in the adjoining restaurants or relax with a cup of coffee.

3. Music and acrobatic shows worth seeing

Visit a traditional dance show during your stay in Kenya, which is absolutely worth seeing. Such dance and acrobatic shows are not only performed in theatres, but also in large hotels. The Gonda Traditional Entertainers, the Original Zengala Band and the Bomas of Kenya perform particularly traditional performances. Hotspot for such shows is Nairobi. But you can also experience music and dance shows in many other regions of the country.

Kenya has served several times as a backdrop for famous feature films such as "Beyond Africa", "The White Massai" and "Nowhere in Africa.
