Location and orientation

Holidays in Middle East

Israel is a state on the Mediterranean coast bordering Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The state, which is divided into six Israeli districts, is, in contrast to its neighboring countries, a stable social and liberal-democratic constitutional state. The capital is Jerusalem. Israel's largest metropolitan area, however, is Tel Aviv.

Nature parks and natural attractions

Israel has several nature reserves with lush vegetation, such as the Banyas Park, a former site of the ancient city of Caesarea Philippi. Park En Gedi is situated on the shore of the Dead Sea and has some beautiful oases. Who would like to bathe in warm springs, visits best Gan haSchloscha. The impressive chalk cliffs Rosch haNikra are situated on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea.

The cuisine in Israel is strongly influenced by Jewish immigrants, which is why the majority of Israeli food is kosher. Pork is also seldom put on the plate due to the high Jewish and Muslim population.

Top travel tips

1. Visit the "Holy City

During your stay in Israel, make sure you travel to Jerusalem, a city full of famous sights. In the old town there are numerous holy sites to be seen, such as the Dome of the Rock of the Muslims, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre of the Christians and the Wailing Wall of the Jews. The unique atmosphere of the city is underlined by the various church bells and the calling of market traders who try to make a good deal.

2. Explore the ruins of Avdat

Avdat National Park is located in the Negev Desert in the southern part of the country. In this park you can admire the ancient ruins of the Nabataean city of Avdat. The archaeological excavation site still contains numerous sights today, such as a late Roman burial chamber, a Roman villa and a Byzantine quarter. Architecturally and historically interesting are also the citadel at the huge city gate, the Acropolis, the Nabataean temple and a Baptistery.

3. To the place where Jesus preached

One of the most important Christian sites in Israel is the Mount of the Beatitudes, located on the Sea of Galilee. According to Christian tradition, the Sermon on the Mount of Jesus took place here. Take a look at the Church of the Beatitudes from the 1930s, built by the dictator Mussolini.
