Pompous celebrations also take place during the famous carnival in February and the winter solstice at the end of June.

The traditional dishes of the country are characterised by meat, fish and shellfish, which are combined with rice, beans, potatoes and pasta. A typical example is the hearty Feijoada stew with black beans. Other specialities include Caurururú crabs, Farofa roasted manioc flour and Pamonha dessert with coconut, corn and sugar.
