Online Check-in - Statistical Reporting in Italy: A Simple Guide for Hosts

Important Notice (Updated October 2025)

Statistical reporting in Italy is a mandatory requirement for all accommodation providers. This guide explains how the process works and how Holidu can help automate your submissions to ensure compliance with Italian regulations.

What is Statistical Reporting?

In Italy, all accommodation providers are legally required to submit monthly statistical reports to the authorities. These reports help track tourism trends at both national and local levels, allowing governments and local administrations to plan tourism more effectively.

Even if your property was closed or had no guests during the month, you are still required to submit the report.

For more information, please refer to the ISTAT Reporting Guidelines.

What Information is Required?

Each month, hosts must report the following details:

  • Property name
  • Property type (e.g., hotel, B&B, holiday home)
  • Days open or closed
    • A property is considered open if it was available for at least one day in the month.
    • It is considered closed only if it remained closed for the entire month.
  • Total available rooms for that month
  • Total available beds for that month
  • Total number of guests checked in during that month
  • Guest nationalities
    • If guests are Italian, the province where they reside must also be reported.
  • Total number of occupied nights

Note on manual submissions: If you submit your report manually instead of using Holidu's automatic connection, some regional portals — like ROSS1000 — may ask for extra information, such as your guests' ID document numbers. This is only required for manual submissions. If you use Holidu's automatic reporting, this information is not required and is not sent.

How Do Hosts Get Credentials?

Each province in Italy has its own regional portal where hosts must register to obtain their credentials. The registration process may vary depending on the local authority, but generally, hosts will need to:

  1. Identify the correct regional portal based on the property's location.
  2. Register as an accommodation provider on the portal.
  3. Receive login credentials (username and password).
  4. Use these credentials to submit monthly statistical reports.

If you are unsure where to register, check with your local municipality or tourism office for guidance.

How to Submit the Report?

Each province in Italy has its own regional portal where accommodation providers must submit their data.

To make this process easier, Holidu offers an automatic statistical reporting feature as part of its regulatory support for the Italian market. Once connected, the required data is sent automatically, so you can spend less time on manual submissions.

Automatic Reporting for Empty Periods

The Holidu ISTAT integration also reports to ISTAT when there are no guests during a given month, supporting compliance with the reporting requirements even when the property is unoccupied.

Choosing Between Alloggiati Web and Motourist

If You Have Private or Direct Bookings

If your property has private or direct bookings that aren't registered through Holidu, be aware of this limitation when using the automatic ISTAT connection to Motourist:

  • Holidu can only report guest data for bookings registered in the Holidu system. Private or direct bookings are never sent automatically.
  • Motourist does not allow mixing automatic and manual submissions — once your ISTAT connection is active via Holidu, you cannot separately submit your direct bookings' data manually.

Recommendation: If you have private or direct bookings, do not activate the automatic ISTAT connection to Motourist. Submit your ISTAT statistics manually instead, covering all your bookings. Your Alloggiati Web connection (used for guest check-in registration) is not affected by this and can remain automated.

How to Connect Your Property to Statistics Reporting

Follow these simple steps to enable automatic statistical reporting for your property:

  1. Log in to your Holidu account and navigate to the "Statistics Connection" section.
  2. Set up the integration with your stats account to automate guest reporting.
  3. Enter your regional portal credentials (username and password).
  4. Click "Validate" to confirm the connection is working correctly.
  5. Click "Save Changes" to activate automatic reporting.

Once your property is connected, Holidu will automatically send your monthly statistical reports to the appropriate Italian regional portal, ensuring you remain compliant with all statutory requirements.
