The CIN (National Identification Code) is a unique code that Italy requires for all non-hotel accommodation, including holiday rentals. It keeps the short-term rental market transparent and makes every property clearly identifiable.
When did the CIN requirement start?
The law took effect on November 2, 2024. All rental properties should have obtained their CIN by January 1, 2025. The requirement comes from Decreto Anticipi No. 145/2023.
How do I get a CIN?
Apply through the Ministry of Tourism's online platform, Banca Dati Strutture Ricettive (BDSR). Once you receive your code, you must:
- Display the CIN outside your property.
- Include the CIN in all rental listings, both online and offline.
Are there other safety requirements?
Yes. All tourist rentals must have combustible gas and carbon monoxide detectors, along with fire extinguishers. Professional rentals must also meet additional safety installation requirements.
