If your property has CCTV or recording devices, you must disclose them in your listing description, including how many there are and where they are located, even if they are turned off. Concealing any device is strictly forbidden. During guests' stays, all devices must be switched off. Each channel also has its own rules, which are explained below.

Where can CCTV and recording devices be installed?

You must disclose the presence of any CCTV or recording devices in the following areas:

  • Non-private areas: entryways, parking areas, or access roads leading to the property.
  • Common areas: places shared by other guests or the public, such as lobbies, stairways, elevators, or laundry facilities.
  • Exclusively rented areas: areas that only guests have access to, such as private gardens or pools. These spaces also fall under this rule.

How should I disclose CCTV and recording devices in my listing?

You must clearly state in your property description how many CCTV or recording devices there are and where they are located in or around your property. This applies even if the devices are not actively recording or are turned off, for example, a device positioned outside near the entrance.

Concealing CCTV or recording devices is strictly forbidden. Devices must remain turned off during the guests' stay, so this information should always be included in your description.

What are the platform-specific guidelines?

Booking.com

Booking.com does not allow CCTV in areas exclusively rented by guests, even if the devices are turned off during their stay. If you want to keep your listing on Booking.com, we recommend removing any CCTV in these areas.

If the CCTV cannot be removed, you must indicate its presence in the "Safety" section under "Amenities" in Configuration (left side of the screen) and specify the exact locations in your description. Adding CCTV to your property configuration does not automatically update your listing description, so you must update the description yourself.

For more information, see the Booking.com Requirements on CCTV.

Airbnb

Since April 30, 2024, Airbnb has applied the following rules to security cameras, recording devices, noise monitors, and smart devices:

  • No security cameras or recording devices are allowed in any part of the interior (even if turned off or disconnected) or in common areas.
  • Exterior areas with high privacy expectations, such as enclosed outdoor showers or saunas, cannot have cameras.
  • Noise decibel monitors are allowed indoors but must be disclosed, and they cannot be placed in bedrooms, bathrooms, or sleeping areas.

Hosts who do not comply may have their listings removed. For more details, see the Airbnb Security Device Policy.

Other platforms

Other channels, such as Vrbo, allow CCTV in areas exclusively rented by guests, but the devices must be turned off during the guests' stay. Always show the devices to your guests at check-in and inform them that the devices are turned off.

What should I keep in mind about CCTV and listing updates?

Adding CCTV to your property configuration does not automatically update your listing description, so you must add the details yourself. Hosts are fully responsible for any cancellations made by channels due to CCTV that is not clearly displayed in the property configuration and description.
