Vogelsberg is Europe’s largest volcanic area and offers many opportunities for hiking, cycling, and trips to picturesque half-timbered towns such as Alsfeld, Grünberg, Lauterbach, and Schotten.
The Hoherodskopf (775 m) features a climbing forest, summer toboggan run, and a bird park in Schotten.
A small zoo with many animals and play areas is also worth a visit. The Hohlmühle, dating from the 16th century, is in complete seclusion outside the hamlet of Schellnhausen (34 inhabitants). The approx. 98 sqm apartment is on the first floor of an outbuilding and is accessed via a balcony with an external staircase.
