Once the stronghold of the powerful Castellane family, the château has survived the centuries despite its turbulent past. Religious wars, sentimental stories, family quarrels, duels and sieges still haunt the walls of this surprising castle.
The castle is adjacent to the village square of the same name, which derives from that of the Roman goddess Alemona. In its green setting, it remains one of the few representative examples of the Louis XII style, and one of the most beautiful and best-preserved in Haute-Provence.
Originally built by the de Castellane family (1218 to 1718), it became the home of the Varages (1718 to 1839), then the Ripert-Montclar family (1839 to 1936). It housed a vacation camp (1946 to 1970) before being taken over by private owners.
Today, it is inhabited year-round, and its owners will be delighted to welcome you.
