Wells-next-the-Sea is a picturesque seaside town on the North Norfolk coast, offering a mix of natural beauty, coastal charm, and historic attractions. It’s a popular destination for families, couples, and outdoor enthusiasts. Wells Beach is one of the most beautiful in the UK, known for its wide expanse of golden sand and iconic rows of colorful beach huts. The beach is ideal for sunbathing, walking, or exploring the sand dunes. It’s also perfect for families, with shallow waters at low tide. You can walk along the beach to Holkham Beach, another stunning location, featured in the closing scene of Shakespeare in Love. This part of the Norfolk coast is also great for birdwatching, especially in the surrounding salt marshes. Wells Quay is the heart of the town, bustling with fishing boats and offering views of the salt marshes. You can stroll along the quay, watch the boats come in, or try your hand at crabbing, a popular family activity. There are several eateries around the quay where you can enjoy fresh seafood, including fish and chips, or visit one of the local pubs for a drink. Take a boat trip from Wells Harbour to explore the surrounding coastline. Several companies offer tours, including seal-watching trips to Blakeney Point, where you can see the famous grey seals, particularly in the winter months when pups are born. Hop on the Wells and Walsingham Light Railway, the longest 10¼" narrow gauge steam railway in the world. The journey takes you through scenic countryside to the nearby village of Walsingham, known for its historic abbey and religious significance as a pilgrimage site. Just a few miles from Wells-next-the-Sea, Holkham Hall is a stunning 18th-century Palladian mansion set within a vast estate. You can tour the house and explore the grounds, which include a lake, gardens, and miles of walking and cycling routes. The estate also has a fantastic beach, Holkham Beach, often cited as one of the best in the UK. Holkham Estate hosts various events throughout the year, including outdoor concerts, fairs, and food festivals.
