De Kiel in Drenthe is a small village located about two kilometres north of Schoonoord. It is surrounded by several forest reserves, making it a great base for cycling trips and walks. A nice attraction nearby is Harwi sculpture garden in Eeserveen. In the extensive gardens you can take a nice walk and enjoy the various ceramic sculptures. The Ellert and Brammert open-air museum in Schoonoord is highly recommended for children. Here you can discover everything about how people used to live in Drenthe.
