Nestled deep in the tranquillity of the South Downs National Park near the picturesque Hampshire village of Meonstoke, Meon Boscage is the perfect place for an idyllic getaway with family and friends.
The word ‘boscage’ means ‘a group of trees and shrubs, and the sheer variety of species in the 3.36 acres that surround this rural hideaway means that the grounds have officially been called an ‘arboretum’ by local tree experts.
You’d struggle to find a more splendid ‘back garden.’ From the front room or the outside seating area, you can look down over a spacious lawn to this collection of beautiful trees, catching a glimpse of the River Meon meandering beyond, then, after admiring this stunning view on a warm summer afternoon, you could enjoy a stroll through your very own woodland, maybe stopping to relax with a cool drink on the decking next to the water.
The house itself is contemporary yet homely, with a stylish Scandinavian feel, the open-plan ground floor has wonderful views of the grounds, with wide bifold doors making it easy to combine indoor and outdoor living.
In the comfy lounge area, there’s a plush corner sofa with loads of room for everyone to unwind, and a woodburning stove to warm you if the weathers chilly.
The well-equipped kitchen features everything from a range cooker to a microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and state-of-the-art coffee machine, there’s ample space to enjoy meals – whether it’s croissants and coffee at the breakfast bar, or a memorable evening dinner in the spacious dining area or ‘al fresco’ on the terrace.
Upstairs, the luxurious master bedroom boasts a king-size bed, elegant bath and walk-in shower, as well as stunning views of the grounds below from its own Juliet balcony, the three other bedrooms all have a cottagey feel: one with a king-size, another a double and the third a small double bed, the family bathroom includes a free-standing stone bath and walk-in shower, while on the ground floor there’s an additional shower room. Head outside to the riverside decking which provides beautiful views of the River Meon and is a magical place to sit and relax under the ambient lighting after dusk.
When you’re not relaxing at Meon Boscage, you’ll find a whole host of things to do in the surrounding countryside, villages and towns.
For walkers and cyclists, there are countless paths and trails to follow, with the spectacular South Downs Way within easy reach.
The charming villages of Meonstoke and Droxford are also close by, where you can pick up supplies for your stay or enjoy a meal in one of the atmospheric local country pubs, and a little further afield, the cities of Winchester – with its historic cathedral and Great Hall - and Portsmouth – where you can explore the D-Day Museum and historic ships like the Victory and Mary Rose - are perfect for a day’s sightseeing.
