A unique Grade II listed circa 1400 Medieval Hall surrounded by an acre of gardens in the village of Bignor, West Sussex. Still retaining its original features including vaulted ceilings and fine timberwork, The Yeoman’s House is a unique characterful retreat for a family or group of friends.
Step inside into the hallway, and you will find a downstairs toilet and cloakroom area. Beyond this, a light dining room with garden views with additional easy seating. This leads to the spacious sitting room featuring an imposing feature inglenook fireplace and traditional exposed timberwork. Sit back in the comfortable sofas and enjoy a relaxing evening in after an action-packed day. Beyond the sitting room is a small study, perfect for quiet reading or home working.
Contrasting with the age of the house, the streamlined and contemporary kitchen with stainless steel units provides everything needed for the group to prepare hearty meals which everyone can enjoy in the dining area.
An oak staircase takes you upstairs to the vaulted bedrooms, the master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and striking original chimney breast, a twin room, and a further twin bedroom with a mezzanine TV area. A family shower room completes the accommodation.
Outside, The Yeoman’s House is surrounded by an extensive lawned garden bordered by mature hedging. There is a flagstone terrace where you can sip a refreshing drink as the sun goes down. In addition, there is a separate orchard for you to explore and a swing.
The owners have a small two storey cottage within the grounds, located behind a tall Yew Hedge in its own very separate garden. The owners may be in residence on occasion but are out of sight and will be discreet.
The small village of Bignor is known for its preserved Roman Villa and wonderful walks up Bignor Hill. The historic town of Arundel, is a ten minute drive, home to the ancient 12th century Arundel Castle and many independent shops, art galleries and restaurants. Alternatively visit the market town of Petworth, known for its antique shops and Petworth House (National Trust).
A fascinating base for the whole family to enjoy.

OWNER CANNOT TAKE SUNDAY ARRIVALS. Note: This property does not accept commercial or corporate bookings. Probably the best preserved building of its type remaining in England, The Yeoman's House, listed Grade II, is a stunning example of a medieval hall house. Set in about an acre of garden, the present owners have lavished much care and attention on refurbishing the spacious accommodation and have hit on a great balance between preserving the original features and the addition of more contemporary details. You'll be delighted at the fine timberwork, vaulted ceilings upstairs and some charmingly uneven floors. The huge chimney breast in the double bedroom is particularly spectacular. In contrast, the kitchen is completely up-to-date with striking red worktops and stainless steel units with all the modern appliances you'd expect. We think you'll be impressed by the garden which has been beautifully designed by the owner. There are an abundance of flowers and shrubs, giving interest all year round. The only choice you'll have to make is whether you sit out on the paved terrace or under a shady tree, both lovely for al fresco dining on a warm summer's day. This really is an exceptional place to spend some time getting away from it all. The owners have a small two storey cottage within the grounds, located behind a tall Yew Hedge in its own very separate garden. The owners may be in residence on occasion but are out of sight and will be discreet.
Note: This property has a £150 good housekeeping bond .
