From Bampton you can easily reach the River Thames just 2½ miles away and with footpath walks and cycling available, also the Cotswolds with Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and Chipping Norton within half an hour’s drive.
Carp and trout fishing is available just 8 miles away.
Witney, with a larger range of shops, is 5½ miles and the University city of Oxford, where you can explore the historic buildings, go punting on the river, eat and shop in the many independent and high street cafés, restaurants and stores is 18 miles.
If it’s shopping you’re after, you can take a trip to Swindon or Bicester where you will find many bargains at the outlet shopping villages.
For nature lovers, the Chimney Meadow Nature Reserve is located just over 2 miles away, where you will discover many different species of birds.

Ideal base for our holiday and visiting attractions in the area. Bampton is a lovely village and The Plough has a comfortable lived in feel to it, nice to come back to and chill.
We never tried the village restaurant but the Chinese takeaway is really good.
We would certainly recommend.

We had a lovely stay at the Plough. A real caracter period cottage with a lovely garden. The cottage is located in the village, you can walk to the shops or the pub. The town itself is also very beautiful.

Lovely cottage, lovely village only drawback k was lack of eateries in the village.
Very good Chinese but no pub grub to be had despite several pubs around
Otherwise I’d stay at the cottage again.
