The water meadows is adjacent to the eastern Yar River and has interesting wetland flower species and invertebrates, especially dragonflies. The meadows along with their old ditch drainage systems are hunted by barn owls, kingfishers and herons.
Borthwood Copse is Opposite the Lodge and owned by the national trust where you can enjoy a lovely stroll around delightful ancient oak and beech trees, sunny glades and chestnut and hazel coppice. You may also be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a red squirrels as they scurry through the trees.
The local village shop is a short drive from the property as well as the towns of Shanklin and Sandown where you will find a variety of shops, restaurants, pubs, takeaways and sandy beaches.
After a busy day travelling/touring enjoy a local a meal at the public houses in the neighbouring village of Arreton or Newchurch so no need to even cook.

We had a lovely time at the lodge. It was very clean and comfortable. The garden had artificial grass which was good for keeping doggy paws clean but also access to the owners field. We enjoyed seeing all the animals sheep, dogs, horses and alpacas. There was a footpath from the cottage to The Point...
